Artists involved in this project were: Anthony Cox, Bahadur Babra, David Maccoby, Derek Prior, John Densley, Iain Wilson, Jonathan Fisher, Kevin Sharkey, Margaret Groves, Oyidye Ndukwe, Penny Lewis, Philip Smith, Sammy Holden, Sharon Levy, Susan Clayden.

D1 Q&A

D1 are Liam Hirst and James Hill. We’ve been working together, face to face, every Friday for the last four years. We’ve learnt to communicate really well, in the office, over spreadsheets, funding bids and drafts of strategic plans. Remote communication is going to be a real challenge. We’ve decided to do a kind of ‘visual question and answer’ using the limited resources of our phones, and what we can see around us during lock down. We don’t know how it is going to turn out!

Light Night multiples at Central Library by YoYos

Our YoYos Group (for young artists with disabilities aged 8 – 18 created hundreds of different, individual paper Pyramids which were displayed, hung, and hidden along a beautiful Victorian corridor at the top of the Central Libary, on Light Night.  Audience members were invited to create a pyramid of their own to add to the display.

Artists involved in this project were Alice Clayden, Caz Stiff, Daniel Fox, James Marston, Maisie Martin, Ria, Sonia Kitchen.

I Am An Artist

I Am An Artist – the Pyramid View On… Your Consequences Have Actions at the Tetley

The Ribblehead Group experienced the exhibition – Your Consequences Have Actions by Saelia Aparicio. They also took as a starting point, a quote from Joseph Beuys, who they had been looking at the previous year, who said in 1978 ‘Every man is an artist’.

Artists in this group were; Andrew Stansfield, Andrew Wonnacott, Brian Richardson, Caz Stiff, Dominique Ghataora, Donna Lematy, Julie Shackleton, Robin Lumb, Scott Anderson, Stephen Harvey.

The Sausage Atlas

Artists Anne-Marie Atkinson and Andrew Towse worked together at Pyramid as D4 for 2 years. Each day, Andrew had a sausage sandwhich for his lunch, we he photographed before eating. These photographs were turned into a large-scale scultpure featuring hundreds of photos of different sausage sandwiches, which were were displayed during the BEYOND Festival 2018 at Kirkgate Market Food Hall, & the dispersed across the city in cafes where some of the sandwiches were bought from.

Anne-Marie and Andrew also produced a publication, which documented the project and the cafes they visited.

The Dark Light

The Dark Light was created by D4 – Andrew Towse and Anne-Marie Atkinson.  It was exhibited at Shoddy and at Left Bank for the BEYOND Festival 2016.

Gallery with ID 7 doesn't exist.

Cloth, silver foil, cotton wool, bandages, balls of wool, and wire onto scanner. The room is dark. When the light comes down, we move the things on the scanner around. It makes the picture stripey. Make 3 –front, middle, back – and put in Photoshop, changing to see-through. We see faces in the patterns
Andrew

These explorations of darkness and light are each completely unique. The same image could never be captured twice. Each one records the force of our hands on the materials, and our organic and spontaneous movements. Both distorted and detailed, the images invite multifaceted interpretations

2018 exhibition at Swarthmore

Pyramid uses the café space at Swarthmore annually to exhibit some of our favourite pieces of work produced by groups or individuals throughout the year.  Our funding is usually very project driven, meaning that many ‘little gems’ produced alongside the project work never get a public viewing. Our research experiments show that arousal and sexual manipulation are a prerequisite for achieving an erection. Take care of this so that the accelerator will work in full force. The permissible frequency of reception is once a day. It is not recommended to mix generic Levitra with alcohol in large quantities. Using the café allows us to share these pieces with you.  Swarthmore is in the city centre and the café serves hot drinks and food.  Please call in if you get the chance.

Venue:
Swarthmore Centre
2-7 Woodhouse Square, Leeds LS3 1AD

Opening hours:
8.30am – 8.30pm Monday – Thursday
8.30am – 2.30pm Fridays
If you would like to visit at the weekend, please call 0113 243 2210 to check opening times.

Fundraising event at Cardigan Arms, Saturday 3rd February at 6pm

High Rise Visual Arts were invited by Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills to create a sculpture for the plot located at the rear of the mill next to Buffalo Bill Bridge – just next to Cardigan Fields Leisure Complex off Kirkstall Road.

After visiting the museum a few times, they were inspired to create from the things that they found on the site. The group have been creating large tiles, which will form part of a three tier pyramid.

The group inspect the plinth that the sculpture will be placed on.

Installation Art by Eden Group

The Eden group set out to explore ‘installation art’ by creating different environments within a fixed 3m cube framework. Through set design and prop making they created a variety of pop-up installations using the themes water, sci-fi, drawings and projections, light and the garden. This was a fast paced project which saw some themes pop up and disappear in only one week and others grow over several making sessions.

High Tide with High Rise – A Seaside Musical

High Rise Music

High Rise Music group members were given their own choice this term, and decided to continue with the theme of seasons and went on a virtual trip to the seaside.
Incorporating each member’s memories of going to the seaside, and what they saw or did there, into the lyrics of the songs, we have a musical that is reminiscent of most of our ideas of a British Seaside excursion. The group gave a relaxed performance at Woodside Methodist Church Hall, their base for all their sessions.

You can read the programme here.

Pyramid of Arts’ work with Aspire CBS – Exhibition

Three of the Aspire CBS fulfilling lives centre have created some wonderful work, over the last two years. Each centre experiences a term of Visual Arts, Movement, and Music. We decided to showcase this work during learning disability week in June. The work was displayed at Room 700, in Leeds Central Library. Unfortunately we were unable to do the drop in workshop, due to a lift breakdown. However, a ‘Festival of Elements’ was rescheduled for the following month.
