This activity is part of a project we are working on with Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills.

Background

The River Aire is a huge feature in Leeds; it runs right through the city centre.
The river starts at Malham Tarn in the Yorkshire Dales where it is nothing but a small stream.
Atlantic Salmon have been returning to the river and have been seen in the water by fishermen.

To make it easier for the fish to get upstream to spawn (breed), fish passes are being made along the river.
A fish pass is a waterway that goes over obstacles like weirs, making it easier for the fish to travel upstream.
A fish pass is being built at Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills.

You can learn more about the River Aire fish passes by watching a short film on the Developing the Natural Aire website: https://dnaire.org.uk/

To celebrate the new fish pass at Armley Mills, Pyramid and the Museum would like you to create fishy works of art that will be shown in an exhibition at the Museum in 2021.

You can make your own fish however you like, or use one of our templates below to get started.
