Pyramid is a place where people with different levels of ability can be creative together. We work with people with learning disabilities and/or autism in groups and one-to-one sessions to help people discover, explore and enjoy the arts, and develop as artists to the full extent of their abilities and ambitions.
We’re always on the lookout for new volunteers. You don’t need to be creative or have experience working with people who have learning disabilities and/or autism to join our team of volunteers, you just need an eagerness to learn and a willingness to try different art making!
As a volunteer, you’ll play an important role in our groups by assisting the artist facilitators with preparing our studio room and helping to adapt any activities to make sure everyone in the group will be able to take part. During the session, you might support the group by making teas and coffees, or spending time with a member one-on-one to help them with their artmaking or to socialise.
In return, we offer free access to our training programme and the unique opportunity to be involved in a project which is exciting, innovative and establishing Pyramid as a national leader in inclusive arts practice.
Why volunteer at Pyramid?

Learn transferrable skills
Volunteering at Pyramid is a great way to learn creative and communication skills. You’ll also gain practical experience supporting people with learning disabilities and/or autism. We offer references to volunteers after six months and many of our paid artist facilitators started out as volunteers before moving into a paid role.
Receive free training
As well as gaining hands-on experience in our groups, volunteers also receive free access to our training programme on how to support people with learning disabilities in a creative setting. Volunteering for us also gives you the unique opportunity to be involved in creative projects which are exciting, innovative and establishing Pyramid as a national leader in inclusive arts practice.

Make connections
As well as having the opportunity to experience different art practices, you’ll also get the chance to meet local artists and other art organisations. We aim to showcase our members’ work in creative venues across the city and have partnered with organisations like Leeds Art Galary, Kala Sangam, Opera North and the Leeds Lieder Festival.
